The abbreviation R290 stands for propane gas - a chemical compound from the elements of hydrogen and carbon. The use of R290 as a natural refrigerant when using mobile local air conditioners has, in contrast to the previously used refrigerants with fluorocarbons (here: HFCs) in air conditioning and refrigeration technology the advantage that its components are completely natural and ecological and therefore have neither ozone degradation potential nor a significant direct heating potential.
