The launch of Apple’s “iPad on a stick” or “HomePod with a screen” will be delayed

Rumored to be a "HomePod with a screen" or "iPad on a stick," Apple's smart display won't go on sale until the third quarter of next year at the earliest, though it was originally scheduled for March 2025. The device will be powered by the A18 chip used in the current iPhone 16 lineup and will have a 6- or 7-inch screen with nearly square proportions. The display is also said to have a magnetic wall mount.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said after examining Apple's supply chain that the company's unannounced smart display will not launch until the third quarter of 2025, rather than March as previously expected. Kuo predicted that Apple could ship between 500,000 and one million of these displays by the end of next year. The device is expected to help the company strengthen its position in the smart home market.

In addition to an affordable tablet-sized smart display, Apple is also planning a more expensive desktop device with built-in cameras and a screen controlled by a robotic arm. Bloomberg reports that the operating system for the new display will be homeOS, based on Apple TV's tvOS. The device will support apps like Calendar, Notes and Home, and will be integrated with Apple Intelligence, something the HomePod smart speaker doesn't currently have.
